There is a new Risk management requirement for eligibility/qualification to swim due to the increase in SIPS and logistic costs.

Eligibility to swim in the 10km – you must have completed a 10km swim in the last 12 months. Due to the increase in SIPS – you must have previously swam 19.5km or more to be able to enter the 24km.

10km swim is a deep water start from your boat will be 1km -2km start offshore

This year there will also be a 10km swim as part of the course open to solos and duos. The 10 km swimmers will start 1-2km offshore opposite Narabeen SLSC (it will be a boat start). 10 km swimmers will start 13:00 to coincide with the 24km swimmers.

There are 100 entrants allowed and the 24km marathon swimmers will have priority entry. Additional numbers will require a risk assessment and the availability of additional water safety. This may increase entry price.

“Sunset clause” If you have previously paid but not done the swim yet, then you must do it this year or you lose your money and your entry into the swim. Therefore you will have to pay a new entry fee to enter the following year.

Entry fee is $400.00 (non refundable)

The Palm Beach to Shelly Beach 24km is one of the official Australian Triple Crown swims:

Safety

Safety in the water is paramount, so many things can go wrong. For the palm2shelly swim, an observer and boat support are required. The boat must be within 10m of the swimmer. While the risk of a shark attack is low the consequences are high.

Channel preparation

If you are preparing for a channel swim this year, this swim is definitely a great lead up swim, confidence booster and an opportunity to test your nutrition and swim strategy. A great opportunity to meet some incredible people, listen to interesting stories, network and enjoy the company of like minded people.

Save money

Doing endurance sports is an expensive pastime. So I want your expenses to be low where possible. For this reason, I accept that swimmers can swim with either one or two other swimmers (maximum 3) to keep boat costs down. However, swimmers should be the same pace and you will need to go as fast as the slowest swimmer and stay within your support vessel 10m range. Swim strategy and pace rate is a discussion for “your” group and not one that I can engage in.

Interstate or International swimmers

If you are coming from interstate or international and flying in… Make sure you get a flexi ticket. If weather conditions are too bad then the swim will be cancelled till safer conditions are favourable. We should know in the week leading up to the race if conditions are favourable. This will be determined by the Burea of Meteorology. These predictions and weather conditions will dictate if your vessel can go out offshore open water and provide support. The owner or skipper of the vessel are ultimately responsible for your safety and their guidelines are set by their insurance and acceptable weather conditions for the boat.
